Security Breach with Covid-19 Vaccine Portal
On Tuesday the OPP has announced that a government employee is one of the two people charged following an investigation into a security breach related to Ontario’s COVID-19 immunization system. At the beginning of last week, it was confirmed that the Covid-19 portal was breached and that sensitive information may have been taken. Individuals began to receive text messages shortly after scheduling their vaccine or attempting to retrieve their vaccine records. These messages were requesting individuals to provide their banking information in order to receive reimbursements for receiving their vaccines. What was really alarming is that unlike most phishing attacks these messages included either the person’s full name or their child’s full name.
